I know ford added the 3.5 HO to the top end of the F150 lineup. Did not even know the HO existed for a 3.5. It's their Raptor engine, I think.
Expeditions - standard and EL - will still have the issue of trailer sway over the longer f150 pickups. I don't think you can get around that even with really good anti-sway devices and load leveling hitches (a must for towing RVs in my mind). They reduce or eliminate the squat and reduce the sway..
For me personally, whether the 4th gen Exp./Nav has better towing or fuel efficiency than the 2013 to 2016 models is not relevant. The improvements, if any, appear incremental and will not help me. I drive less than 10k miles a year because I run my business from home, so my gas consumption is already low and I'm likely to tow a travel trailer less than 5x per year. Any fuel efficiency improvement between 3rd gen and 4th gen would be far offset by the fact that I would pay significantly less for a vehicle that's 3-6 years old. As far as towing, I aim to find a TT that weighs less than 80% of the claimed towing capacity, maybe even close to 65% or 70%. If I achieve that objective, then the 300 pound tow capacity difference between 3rd gen & 4th gen becomes irrelevant for me. Since I need the flexibility of a 3rd row seat when family is in town, a pick-up truck is not something in my near future. I agree I'd have to use weight distribution/anti-sway hitch no matter what I pull behind me. It's a no-brainer one-time investment.

My biggest obstacle right now is finding a used Exp/Nav that is HD tow package equipped without too many visits to dealerships. And that is very tough.

when searching the dealer online, look at the window sticker. The HD towing is listed in the upper section.
a dealer near me has two or three used expeditions with HD towing.

WOW!! That's the only dealership I've seen that posts their Monroney stickers online. Wish we had that going on in South Florida.

In our neck of the woods, most, if not all dealers post their window stickers.

Where we live, most of the sales reps at dealerships do not know anything about cars. They are not mechanically inclined, not experienced drivers, never heard of towing, or "payload". It's an awful experience.

Our 2019 expedition platinum pulls our 32 foot travel trailer with ease plenty of power. The independent rear suspension makes handling a bit dicey in windy conditions. Fuel mileage is 8 mpg while pulling.

What would the towing weight be wet? If you're not sure, what model travel trailer.

Our 18' navi short wheel base squatted like crazy towing a 32' TT at gross weight capacity, full trunk and 7 humans, but it didn't complain. I'm curious, what tranny temps have you guys seen towing at capacity?
