Hello, has anyone had tried running a 240 3 spd with Clifford 6-8 setup and a FiTech or really any other type of EFI system? I’m currently running 4.11 gears which will be switched to 3.4 and right now I’m running a whopping 55mph. I’m looking to improve that to at least highway speed or better. Just wanted anyone’s input on if this setup would get me there or should I just go ahead and put in a v8. I really like the idea of keeping the 6 and beefing it up but trying to not go to crazy with it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
Have an F-100 or 250? 9 inch or Dana 60? Auto, 3 speed or 4 speed? With a 6, you can add a 5 speed easier with the SBF bell housing pattern compared with the FE.
I'd post down in the six cylinder forum. Personally, what i would do if you're not wanting to go crazy is i would do an Offenhauser 4 barrel intake, a good carb (or efi if you really want it), and a pair of EFI exhaust manifolds. at that with the 3 speed and 3.40 gears, you should be able to go highway speeds.
So why cant he go high way speeds now?
Is it because the motor "sounds" like it is over revving? Should be able to do 55 60 MPH.
Back in the day people drove them allover with that gear and not think twice.
It has only come to light because of the over drive tranys used today that keep the RPM lower.
Now granted the 240 does not have a lot of power so if you have some steep hills it may slow down and the only fix for that is more power than a six can give you.
Just my .02

ps: some states the max speed limit is 55/60 MPH still
There's a big difference between a 240 and a 300, power-wise.
I know there is but I still cant see why he cant do 55 MPH.
I had a 67 Mustang / auto and a 66 Bronco / 3 on the tree with a plow both with the small six and both would do 55 MPH and that was up in hilly New England.
He is in NC and where I have been on the roads you can do 55 the hills were not that bad that he could not do that speed.
I think he needs to look over his tune on the motor, something is not right.
We also don't know what RPM @ what speed he is running at and if he is flat on the floor with the gas pedal?
I still think he is not wanting to go that fast because of the RPM he hears the motor spinning at.
