I tried a search on the forums for this question, but couldn't find any results.
I came to a 19 F250 6.7 from a 15 Ram 2500 Cummins. On the Dodge there was a gauge for the DEF, similar to the fuel gauge. On the Ford all I see is it says DEF level ok, no gauge to show what level it is. This could be problematic as I tow a 5th wheel 900 miles each way and I I would like to make sure it is full before the trip.
Can someone tell me I am crazy and that there is a gauge?
If you have the 8” dash display you can swap the boost gauge between boost, trans temp, and def level. Or under truck info there is a def gauge, really nothing to obsess over the 7.5 gal def tank last a good while.
IF you have the digital (gauge) dash cluster you can view DEF level (gauge) two different ways.....either in the center of the cluster
OR you can change the 4th (right most) gauge to display Boost, Trans Temp, or DEF level.....
Dont worry to much about the DEF. Like shown, there is a gauge. And you wont go through it fast enough to find yourself in a bad position. I just rolled 5,000 miles on my odometer and the low def message came on. Said I had 250 miles till empty. Thats more than enough warning to find a walmart or whatever.
my local Costco had (Blue brand) DEF fluid for $9.99 per box (2.5gal) or $3.99 per gal
Ive seen (Kleen brand) DEF at the Houston Kenworth dealer for 8.82 per box (2.5 gal) or $3.52 per gal
Walmart occasionally has (SuperTech brand) DEF for $7.88 per box (2.5g) or $3.15 per gal.
I just checked mine today, and with 6200 miles on the truck, it still has over 1/4 tank. I haven't gotten the message yet, but I'm sure I will very soon. And I have yet to see the message for a regen. I know it's had to go into regen, but I haven't seen the message. I'm not worried about it, just find it interesting.

there is no dash indicator or message when the engine has activated ReGen.
The engine will regen every 500 miles at the most.
its possible to regen earlier if the DPF filter % reaches 100% (full) before 500 miles.
I have regen'd w/ only 90 miles (filter full)
I have regained at 497 miles (filter 33% full)

Thanks bushpilot. So the message I used to get in my 2011 (would flash up for about a second or so at the start of a regen) is no longer there? That would explain why I haven't seen it. Do you have an aftermarket gauge to show when you go into regen?

No reason to get an aftermarket monitor. If you do not have the DPF filter gauge in your dash, use FORSCAN to add it. You can monitor filter saturation and as it hits 99% you can monitor your regens. Also, the only regens are acitve, this whole passive thing is made up on forums. The so called passive regens are nothing more than high EGT's while pushing the engine to work under heavy loads.

correct - the indicator you used to see, is no longer present.
I monitor regen status (among other things) via a Wifi OBDII adapter using FORScan Lite ($4.99) on my iOS (iPhone) device....
If youre an android user similar versions are available.
Below is a picture of what I see using FORScan Lite...its also an example of an ACTIVE ReGen where I reached 500 miles when he filter was NOT full.
I actually have an OBDII adapter and FORScan Lite. I tried using it on my '11, but I'm not sure why I didn't continue using it. Do you leave the adapter plugged in to the port, or is there a voltage drain by doing that?

I never unplug the adapter unless I take it to use on another car...its an insignificant drain on the battery....Im set up for a battery maintainer (ran the connection to he back/hitch, since I back into the driveway all the time)....if the truck sits for several days or I know its gonna sit, I plug in the maintainer.
