Hey guys I'm new here and new to diesels, an I was wondering if its a bad thing to start a 1988 Ford F-350 with a 7.3l idi with the block heater plugged in?? Would it do any type of damage to the block heater or do any type of damage to the motor in general??
The block heater is completely separate from everything else on the truck wiring wise. Thats why it is wired for 120V and nothing else on the truck is.
Diesel53 ~ No problem at all ~ I put a heater on my tractor ~ well ~ it's inline with the water on the radiator hose ~ no way, no problem ~ as long as you remember to disconnect the 110v line before driving off ```

i second this.....to remind yourself to unplug it before driving off, try to wrap your cord around the antenna base or something so that you notice it.
i drape the wire over the driver side mirror to make sure i do not drive off while still plugged in.
other than that, there is no problem starting the engine while the block heater is plugged in.
