OK so I have A 94 f150 xlt 4x4 with the 5.0/302.
The problem that I am having is that when the truck is cold it runs and drives perfectly I have no issues shifting going to gears or anything of the sorts. However, when it gets up to operating temperature it slips and doesn't want to grab gears properly, and it almost feels like it stays in 2nd or 3rd gear and doesn't come out. Does anybody know what could cause this, as the truck run smoothly when it's cold but doesn't when it's at operating temperature. The transmission doesn't seem to be overheating and I just changed out the fuel pressure regulator As I had black smoke coming out the tailpipe. I should also mention that this is an automatic truck.
There are several components that could be the cause of this symptom. Your best bet is to run diagnostic codes even if you don't have a CEL.. If we get some codes it will eliminate many things and get you in the right direction. Sandy
Ok, so I did a trans fluid flush and filter replacement. Started the truck back up, ran great up until operating temp and then sputtered a bit and then the timing seemed off. I did a code test before this happened, and nothing came up. After it started acting funny, took another test and the reader kept having errors, couldn't read anything. Could the whole thing be the ECM?
I also did make sure it would throw proper codes. Did a purpose misfire and it threw the code fine. After the funkiness, it threw nothing. Kept saying error, please check connections.
One last thing, fixed the black smoke, that was the fuel pressure regulator. So no more smoke, just what seems to be a bad timing/loss of power and trans problems after it warms up. But everything works fine when cold....I'm at a loss
Let me make sure I understand. You can not get codes with your Innova reader and you can not get check engine light codes by jumper? Had a chance to check the fuse?
I get codes when it's cold. When its warm, it errors out. I have no check engine light until it warms up, then it buckles, and I get the light. Then, after that, when I try to take codes, I can't. And no I havent
