it is supposed to do that. Key on, pump comes on a few seconds to prime, then comes back on when it gets signal from distributor that engine is cranking. Do you have spark?

Or if you like cheap thrills and having your world rocked grab the plug end of the wire and make sure you've got a good ground.

Oh yeah---as I remember it only takes ONCE doing this the wrong way to learn that lesson.

I second this ! I've seen em throw sparks across the engine block on a 400
