Problems after disconnecting batteries

So I had the truck (2018 6.7 Lariat Ultimate) in storage for about 7 months with the batteries disconnected, upon reconnecting the batteries I have found a number of electronic issues: remote start, power running boards, and tailgate release not functioning. I did only disconnect the positive terminals and I am guessing may have shorted something when reconnecting? Does anyone have any thoughts on whats going on?

Am not able to guess what has happened, but always disconnect the negative cables first, and reconnect last. Have you checked the fuses assigned to those functions?

Assuming the batteries are fully charged, I’d start looking for signs of rodents.

Disconnecting only positive should not have made a difference. It's best practice to disconnect the negative. That way if your wrench touches the truck while disconcerting you won't get a spark or weld the wrench to the frame.

So are batteries charged?
Check all fuses as stated by others.

Pretty sure it's not a rodent issue, I did not charge the batteries but they seem fine, truck starts no problem, runs accessories. Checked the fuses, they look ok, not brown inside, I will get some new ones just to be sure. Disconnected and reconnected the batteries again still same issues...

It’s possible that these and other features have been disabled by your truck’s computer while the battery management system relearns the battery state of charge after the starting batteries were reconnected following a long disconnect.

I recommend a careful and thorough read of the “Maintenance / Changing the 12V Battery” section of the OM. In particular, note the requirement for an uninterrupted eight hour relearn period after a battery is “changed”.

HTH,

Thank you! The OM talks about the need for the system to relearn the "idle and fuel trim strategy," it also gives instructions on how to reset some electronic functions like windows and radio and, as you mentioned, the need for 8 hours of uninterrupted "sleep" time to relearn all the electronic functions. I was able to reset the power boards from the system menu and the remote start and tailgate now function as normal after driving for about 20 miles.

These new vehicles do not like the batteries disconnected. It throws all sorts of issues. I changed the battery on my GM truck a few years back, and came up with errors and would blow hot air no matter what I did. Found online that there was a "start up" process that had to be followed when the battery is disconnected. Involved all sorts of non-intuitive button pushing and the brake peddle if I remember.

Specific to our Super Duty's, I did see some info where there is a Battery Monitoring System reset that has to be done via the dealer or DIY via the OBDII port & Forscan.

Great news, and thanks for the update!
