Question Replace my V8

Ok guys, I'm thinking of getting a 300 I6 and replacing the 360 in my 74 F100. Can I use the C6 tranny, I have now or do I need a diffirent one? Also I plan on having this 300 on an engine stand till it has been rebuilt to new standards for a pre-computer type engine. So I will more than likley be asking questions as I go, I am in no hurry, but I ain't getting any younger. Nothing wrong with the 8 I just have always like'd the I6 better.

bell housing is different from 300 to the V8 , you need case from 300,289/302,351W for the C6

I was thinking of the same thing! I did do some fishing on this Inline forum, to see if anybody wanted to trade me. We could bring the Six Cyl truck and my 460 truck to the same place and make a dual swap.

Ultimatly I would like to put FI on the Six I get. I still think of it, even though some of the Inline owners tell me the Fuel milage isn't going to get better than 15 Mpg. I guess that would be an improvment over the 10-11 I get now. It may not be worth the price and effort though.
I hope you win.
Look around for awhile. Find the older trucks with the 302. The engine will be junk, but the 302/C-6 is the transmission you want.
Then, out in somebody's pasture is the 300 Six that you need.

Thumbs up Fal Grunt

like I said, I'm in no hurry, the 8 runs just fine. But I will need to build the 6 while I'm still driving the truck. I like your handle, I'm a retired "Grunt" (US Army infantry) and my FAL is my favorite rifle. I have been collecting guns for years, just started on Ford trucks in the last couple years. Thank you guys, for the trans info, I'll be looking around for an I6 + trans. I have a 79 Bronco for pulling power, in 4low it could pull the house off the fondation. The F100 is for driving around town and short trips. Nothing fancy, as long as it startes every morning I'm happy. I don't need "Fast" either, just dependable.
