Hey all, I just bought a '13 FX4 SCrew with the EcoBoost. I'm coming back to the Ford Truck fold after a year working on a Jeep all the damn time.
Anyway, I have the flow through center console and I'd like to mount a pistol vault to the floor of the cubby. It looks like theres an inch or more of space between the cubby floor and the floor of the truck. Before I start sinking fasteners through it....
If it’s the same as the console in my 2011 CC, there’s another storage compartment in there. To get to it, lift out the cupholders (the slide straight up). Once those are out, there’s a tab in the middle of the plastic floor on the drivers side. Just lift that up.
I think it's a different style, at least from the one in the link. Mine has the shifter where the cup holders are in that one.
The area I'm actually wondering about is at the back inside the storage console. If you lift the lid and look inside to the floor of the cubby....what's under that?
Just for anyone else who comes this way - Directly under the console cubby floor you have about 3/8" space and then the molded plastic tubes for the rear air vents in the console. I was able to mount 1/4" bolts through the pistol vault and the console floor, then back them with fender washers underneath. The underside of the cubby has raised ridges for strength, so the bolts and washers had to be placed and trimmed to fit. You have to take the console loose, then lift up the back and you can get to the bolts that mount the air tubes. Take those loose and you can move the tubes around enough to get the job done but it's a mighty PITA.

With all due respect, I won't be posting a photo on the internet about where and how my weapons are secured. If anyone is trying to imagine it, it's 2" thick case-hardened steel welded to the frame of the truck and chained to an underfed pit bull with rabies AND AIDS. It also might be wired to a claymore. Possibly.
to those in the (know), that's funny. The part about the claymore,
Yes it is. I remember at Ft Knox, Ky a young man wired one up to a guys dash that was cheating with the first guys wife. The cheating couple were quite "blown away" when that Chevy ignition key was turned. And it was really a big fire in the NCO Club parking lot too! The guy got life.
