My GEM is malfunctioning, and not powering up the accessory delay relay. I've replaced the relay, with no change in behavior, so it's most likely the GEM, especially since I know the windshield leaks. Clearly, I need to fix the leak and replace the GEM, but in the meantime, would it be realistic to take some male and female spade connectors and short wire leads, and rewire the relay coil circuit, so that it just powers on and off with the key? Is there anything I should watch out for? Would there be any negative side effects from doing something like this temporarily?
Use a switch or the accessories and interior light won't shut off.
To be clear, I'm not talking about bypassing the relay entirely. I just want to reroute the relay coil circuit to a power-with-key-on source. The accessories would shut off normally, like a vehicle with no delay.

Sure, not difficult at all.

Y0u'd just loose the convenience of using those accessories if you turned the key off prematurely. Power window operation before opening a door, especially, would be the most likely convenience feature that would be given up.
How to: Remove relay from socket. Extend relay pins 30 & 87 from the socket to the relay. Ground pin 85. Connect pin 86 to HOT IN RUN OR ACCY power source.

I'm accustomed to not having those features already, so that's no problem for me.

I appreciate the detailed description. I'm no stranger to working on cars, so I would have probably figured it out, but this should save me some time.
I was rummaging through my stuff, and I have a GEM from a 2000 gas 4wd I was planning on listing in the market place. I think it's OK to make mention of it here.
PM if interested.

I already bought a replacement on eBay, but I've hesitated to put it in, because the windshield leaks, and it'll just get wet and ruined like the old one, but I'll keep you in mind if I need another one for some reason.
