My 94 Explorer is possessed. The cd player tries to play when there is no cd in it. On a 15 minute trip, it does this roughly 20-30 times. I've tried a cd cleaner, I've tried blowing it out with canned air. Is there a solution other than replacing it????
Is it built into the radio or a changer? My 97 did the same thing, and I have a changer in the center console. I pulled it out, cleaned it, put it back in and it works fine. There was a couple pennys, dimes, nickles inside of it. I have no idea how they got there (7 y/o son), but it works well now. Im not even sure if that was the problem, nor do I think it was, but either way, I used canned air, and it did the job.
HI!GEE I HAVE THAT SAME PROBLEM!I COULD HAVE THE RADIO ON,THEN THE DISPLAY SAY'S CD. AND GOES ON AND THE RADIO CUT'S OFF.IF I DON'T HAVE THE RADIO ON,THE CD START'S UP BY IT SELF.93EXPLORER.I WROTE BEFORE ABOUT THE ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON.IT WAS THE STARTER.I HAD MY ELECTRIC WINDOW FIXED,AND THAT'S WHEN I HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE CD GOING ON.

Aren't kids wonderful? I had a Radio with a cassette player, the Radio wouldn't come out of cassette mode, and it ejected any cassette. I bought a new unit, as soon as I got the radio out, 3 coins came tumbling out. Luckily I hadn't opened box and was able to take every thing back. PS I had seen the coins in there, but they looked like a couple of gears.
Its got something in there thats the thickness of a Disc that keeps rolling around or a defective, dirty Disc detector, tripping it into the play mode. Since I've never heard of a Disc detector going bad in indicating a Disc is there when one isn't. (When they go bad they indicate NO Disc Detected!!) So I would look into a CD player cleaner or a foreign object in the player.
IF I TURN THE RADIO ON,AFTER LESS THEN HALF A MINUTE,IT SAYS IN THE DIGITAL WINDOW CD IS ON,AND IFTHE RADIO IS OFF.IF I DON'T PLAY THE RADIO,THE TIME STAY'S ON ,BUT THE CD PLAYER GOES ON.
probably something burned up or crossed in the deck, send it into ford, see if they'll do anything for you, i dont know. or hit a stereo store, usually they have extra factory decks that people have taken out when upgrading, you could get them pretty damn cheap
The problem with the cd assembly is a a small black arm about half a centimetre long that triggers a sensor, pull the cover of the radio bent slightly bend the metal bracket and ur back in business
