Recall vs TSB

Does it seem strange that there are no conversations about trucks catching on fire (while no one is in them) but thousands of FTE forum views; comments and threads on Death Wobble (with people in them)?
AND we get a recall for the "fire hazard" and only a "no teeth" TSB that seems to only mask the "truck steering gone crazy" problem.

maybe ford is waiting to see if anyone gets hurt first. with jeep doing a recall for aparently the same thing, seems strange ford is taking a less proactive aproach

Hate to say it, but I imagine cost is a huge consideration. DW is very difficult to diagnose unless someone comes in making the complaint. By diagnose, I mean before it presents itself. In the case of the heater cable fire, it’s a matter of inspection and greasing. Probably a ten minute thing and no parts in most cases. A DW recall would be hard to execute. And remember these trucks have been doing this for decades now. No reason to think Ford is going to suddenly act on it now.

When you say "these trucks," are you talking about the Ford Super Duty trucks? Ford changed the front suspension on the SD pickups in 2005 by dumping the leaf spring suspension in favor of coil springs (the '05 Excursion retained leaf springs since that was its last year). I ask because I never experienced DW with my '01 and '05 Excursions. Also never had DW on both of my '75 and '78 FJ40 Landcruisers which employed leaf spring front suspension. I haven't searched, but I don't recall anyone complaining about DW on the pre-2005 trucks. I speculate the DW could be eliminated if the radius arms were hinged to the frame in front of the axle versus behind it. Major design change involved, and I doubt a retrofit would be possible.
