Remove Door

Remove Door
A never-sufficiently-cursed slid into the open rear driver side door, then took off. I need to remove and replace the door, but have no idea how, other than the hinges. Can anyone offer any advice? The net has lots on how to remove the door panel, but nothing on the door itself.
I did a forum search and nothing relevant came up.
Thanks

What year are you working on? Usually the wires are all in one harness and if you pull the rubber grommet that the wiring harness is in away form the body there should be a big plug in there. Unplug that and unbolt the door. having an extra person or two would be a nice thing to keep it as level as possible when removing it.
If I remember correctly some models have hinge pins tat can be removed instead of unbolting, don't remember if the Escape does...

Thanks, that was helpful. It is a 2006, but my understanding is that 2001-2007 were essentially the same, at least as far as the body is concerned. My main problem is that I didn't know if the electrical connection was in the door or the body., and if I had to remove the door panel to access it.
Thanks,
Bill

I haven't replaced the door on an Escape, but need to open up one of my rears to replace the body side moulding. I want to remove the damaged one at home so I take all the tools necessary to the junkyard to get a replacement. You can learn a lot by going to the junk yard and looking at what other people have already taken apart or broken. On a 04 Explorer I had to fish the wiring harness out of the door and leave it hanging with the body while I changed the door, then fish it back in and hook up all the connections.
