I want to go to my local junk yard and strip the steering column, power steering gear box and power steering pump and all the hoses and bring them back and put this on my 69. This set up since I get all of it does it matter about the year model. I might get it from a 2016 or 1999 model I wont know till I get there and find a complete set up.
Anything other than up to 79 means you will have to weld and fabricate mounts, brackets, and hoses. It is NOT bolt on. Can you weld and fabricate, or have a buddy who can? Anything else means $$$$.
Ok, Thanks for the info. I can weld and fab and I also have a tig welder but did not want to get that involved, so stay 79 and down and I should be ok. Some of the 79 and down did have tilt wheel and that is primarily what I was looking for. I don't care for cruse control but I will be putting a custom steering wheel on the donner column. I see that when I put the 390 back in I will be dealing with some clearance problems with the headers.
The header clearance problem MAY show up, but it depends- are you going with shorties, mid-length, or full-length? I think Hio Silver used the Sanderson FF-427 model and it worked fine. You can either search for his build or check the "Read This First" stickey note and find the article about headers.
Don't forget the pump mounting brackets and the different pulleys. 1976 last year for 360/390. So I would look for 1976 and older there. As of 1978 Ford changed to the CII pump. Adapting it's backet to the older brackets may not be easy.
The C-II pump is a different shape and smaller in diameter than the Ford/Thompson pump, so the 1977 and earlier brackets will not fit.
The C-II also has a plastic reservoir, the P/S pressure hose attaches to the pump w/a qwik connect fitting.
Agreed. That's why I mentioned the pump bracket would have to be fabricated. I know this can be done. My buddy has a 1973 Highboy with a 360. His truck's PO had adapted a CII pump to his 360. It's on there still. The truck is in Camp Verde Arizona and I am not. So I can't get any pics off it right now. He has an old flip phone. Can't send me any pics either.
