1999? Or 1999.5?? How do I determine?

I just recently purchased a 99 SD. I'm going to do some work on the engine but apparently there's a difference between early 99 and 99.5? What is the difference??? And how do I determine what I have?? Lol

A lot of differences in parts used but the easiest way to tell the diffrence is by build date, the cut off is Pearl Harbor Day 1999.

if you rely solely on identify the parts diffrence like turbo or inkate heater you risk the chance a former owner swapped parts.

Engine components were changed in early December and other mechanical components were changed as they ran out of parts. Build date is important but when going for parts take old parts with you or you VIN should cover you. So...start with your build date on the sticker on the door jam.

Don't be upset if you don't have you you really wanted though because you probably have forged rods over PMR, so there is that to fall back on.

John, I can update my PCM and get the cruise light? Of course, that would mean hunting down my tuner I am guessing.

YOU can’t but you can buy a later year model up to certain years. I noticed a significant difference with the newer pcm. But I never got the CC light to light up. It would be nice but not worth the price of a new PCM just for an $.80 light to turn on.

Nah, I'll let him have fun with that one on his own.....cuz it's so much fun....NOT....LOL

Hey bud, if you're truck ever quits, check fuse 30....INSIDE the cab, not the Dist Box under the hood. Just a little lesson I learned after a panic attack.

I want to know if I could get my PCM set so the CC is on as a default. I could never understand why we have to turn it on then set it. The Sterling that I drove last when I worked had a toggle switch on the dash for it and mine was always set in the on position. Other guys always switched it to off on me though, for some reason.

That list isn't totally correct, I have a late 99 but no water to oil cooler for the tranny fluid in the radiator. If I'm not mistaken they didn't cool tranny fluid through the radiator until 2000. The dealer had a TSB and if you complained of tranny cooling issues they may swap one in to the 99 for free, but its definitely not a determining factor for early vs late 99.

It has 180k miles. Could use some injector work. Maybe fuel system and hoop work. Bought it at a auction for 7400 I feel I over paid in mylocation. Convince me to keep it! Instead of buying yet another 7.3 lol... I have three atm...
