So I’m lookin to swap my transmission to a manual on my 77 f150 its got a 390FE and the trans is an automatic 4x4 and I’m wanting to stay with the 4x4 but I haven’t really got an idea on what type of manual trans would fit cause it’s not something I’ve ever done before and nor do I have much knowledge about FE mounting patterns. If anyone knows any somewhat cheapish transmission that would fit and I could find used that would be amazing, thanks.
a 77 wouldn't have come with an FE so you're already in altered status. but on the bright side it's a much better engine than you originally had. are you sure it's an FE ? not many people did that swap since a 429-460 is so much easier.
If so you will need an FE pickup bellhousing and there isn't anything else that fits I know of. for transmissions the T18, T19 and NP 435 were what they used behind the FE's. but since they were a divorced case I'm not sure what you're going to do about that.
I assume there is a married case combo with one of these transmissions that will still fit the FE bellhousing.
