Just acquired a '64 Econoline pickup. Originally a 6cyl/3speed. Have an 89 f150 4.9 EFI/5speed donor. engine management & fuel delivery isn't a problem, but I am stumped on how to set up the shifter. Anyone here ever attempted this?
The shifter question would require maybe a cable setup. Push/pull with 2 or 3 cables. Some front wheel drive manual transmission cars use such a setup.
Will the EFI fit under the doghouse?
Google "remote shifter for manual transmission" and find a bunch of home-made stuff, mostly for moving the shifter back via rods. Systems are commercially available:
On the 1964 you need to reinforce the frame and create a cross member to go under the engine. You might need a larger doghouse like a 1965-1967 Econoline. A 1965 would be easier to convert. Also need the optional 9" rear axle.
