This went for 26k when it sold on BaT, which seems like a pretty great deal for such a solid truck. I do wonder why it wound up in storage for 30 years, but here's hoping the new owner swaps the two-barrel for a proper four-barrel. What do you think? Did the buyer get a deal? More pics and info here.

The lift kit and tires were listed on the original build sheet?....sounds funny to me. Sharp looking truck though. And I don't believe a 400 in a truck ever came with a 4brl carb, did they?

Agreed. I see a lot of little details that are not "factory" such as an aftermarket Vintage Air unit in the dash......

Factory my left foot... still a very nice truck, but the factory also never offered a "lift kit" from what I recall. Gotta love when someone posts up an ad that says "Restored to original" then goes to list all the modifications they've done that are MILES from the factory specs.

And no, the 400 never came with a factory 4-barrel intake and carb.

CA had nothing to do with it. NO 351M or 400 installed in a 1975/79 Passenger Car, 1977/79 F100/350, 1978/82 Bronco, 1980/82 F150/350 & Econoline came with a 4V carb. All came with 2V's.

Besides the mentioned aftermarket parts, the wheels, tires and A/C are also aftermarket.

I'd like to see the Mulroney sticker, because there's no way that this truck had an MSRP of 11 grand.

And I'd like to see the build sheet, because Mickey Thompson parts would not have been installed by FoMoCo.

Some people haven't a single clue, they make assumptions, most of which are BS!

The comments here are so much more informative than they are on BaT. Very cool to see you much FTE members know!

Nice rig but for that price I'd think you could do better.

Didn't all Ranger's have the tailgate finish panel? I've owned a half dozen and they all did.

Customs have none, Rangers have one (center), Ranger XLT's and Lariats have two (one center, one above center).

That's what I thought. highly likely this is a custom with some Ranger trim added. that's why I like to see the Marti report.

My dad bought a 78 Ranger XLT and it did not have the upper trim panel. If memory serves the upper panels were always on Lariats ???? Optional on XLT's maybe or a 78 vs 79 thing...

Upper tailgate finish panel: D3TZ-99425A34-B = 1973/79 Ranger XLT & 1978/79 Lariat.

Every 1973/79 Ranger XLT I've seen (most when new or nearly new, but some years later here on FTE) has the upper tailgate finish panel.

The part numbers prefix decodes to 1973, there were no Lariats until 1978.

Over the years, parts get swapped around and peoples memories fade. How many people today can remember what a 1978 Lariat looked like when it was bought new by their parents?

When I was 7 years old, my mom bought a new 1952 Olds Super 88 convertible. It was green w/a green leather interior and a black top.

The one feature I remember was it had the optional clock/horn ring (clock was mounted in the horn ring). When the wheel was turned, the clock wound, but it never worked worth a damn.

Was the rocker trim standard on XLT's ? I see it on some Rangers and some without it so I assume it was an option on a Ranger.

I bought a 78 F-150 Ranger brand new. It did not have a center finish panel.(FORD letters were painted white). It had upper and lower mouldings, and mouldings around the tailights. It also had the narrow side mouldings without the black insert.
