Well I'm down to the last Few details on my 70 and I am stumped on The Hood ornament. I knew I should have welding those holes up when I had the chance.
The question is ,was there a certain Orn. that was designed for these trucks? Or was it just what ever the Dealer had on the shelf at the time?Below is a pic of what was orginally on there.Does any one else have one that looks like this on there truck?I have looked thru the galleries with no luck. I was going to buy the different d3tz orn from Dennis carpenter ,but they where out of stock and thru a search on here someone said they didn't fit anyway.
Thanks,Johnny
P.S,There's pics of the almost finished truck in my last gallery!
Thanks Idealtrucks,I love your stepside also.I am usually a stepside guy, but I needed a change so I went with a long bed.I have restored 3 early 80's stepsides. This long bed sure does ride nice!
I think I have a lead on this ornament .I see a couple ebay auctions that look like it.One says a 59 ford and the other says a 62 ford.
Johnny
MAC's has them, page 32 if you have the catalog. They only list 1 type for 67-72. No photo, just a sketch, but it looks like yours. $72.95. I haven't bought from them, but they advertise on this site.
There were actually 2 different types of hood ornaments that came on a 1970-1972 Ford truck, the one you have in the pic is not one of them, I think it is closer to the years 58-62 as someone else had mentioned earlier.
One hood ornament that Dennis Carpenter and other parts places have is the most common one. It has the red, white, and blue crest in the center emblem of the ornament..........
The other one is highly rare, it has a "V" emblem in silver with an eagle in the center behind the "V" and the rest of the emblem is black in the center emblem of the ornament, hard to explain.........
I have pics of both of these emblems and I will send those to you if you want them.
SELMAN what size wheel are you running on your truck they look like they are 10 inches wide are they? im running the same type wheel 15x10 and if i hit bump pretty hard the tire hit the fender well lip. are you have ing this problem? mine are the old one but look just like yours. you got a good looking ride there!!
Yes they are 15x10. I've not had any problems with them hitting, but I've not hit any big bumps either. Is you truck lowered any? How about your shocks or springs? I would love to find two 8-8.5 for the front. The truck drives pretty good ,but I think it would drive better with narrower wheels on the front. It would also put my front to rear tracking closer .
As for the hood ornament I bought 2 NOS ornaments off ebay like was on my truck when I bought it(pictured in first post) . Turns out it is from a 59ish ford!

yes sir im running them all the way around. but ' they fit the 10 inch rims good. they dont looked streched on them. what size do you suggest i drive 100 mile round trip to work every day and i dont want to run two different size tires or wheels ive done been threw that i had 15x7 on front and 15x8 on back you cant rotate your tires properly that way.
It doesn't matter if it fits your rim and hits the fender!
Original front tires were about a 235-75-15, if I remember correctly. I'm runing a 255-70r16 with no issues at all 4 corners, but it's on an F250 that may sit a bit higher.
You may be able to fit a tire that wide up front, but you need a wheel with the right offset. Sounds like you don't have the right offset (not sure one exists to make a comfy 275 fit).
blackraptor4 , My back spaceing is 3 5/8". I am also running 275/60/15's.With this back spacing they are ouside the fenders alittle. Are you saying that yours will hit running straight down the road or, are they hitting when you are turning into a driveway?
