It may not hurt to run one from motor to the frame if you don't have one.
From the factory my 81 F100 w/300 six runs from the battery to frame then to starter bolt to ground motor / trany.
There is also an 8ga wire ground from the motor to the fire wall to ground the body.
Can never have too many grounds
