I may buy a 1994 Ranger 4xs4......anything I should know or expect as far as problems? it's a 3.0...………..might think of swapping a Super Coupe 3.8 in it.
Make sure the Super Coupe 3.8 engine will mate up with the transmission in the Ranger. If not, you may need to swap the transmission from the Super Coupe, and buy/find/fabricate some parts to keep the transfer case and 4-wheel drive. It will be a challenging swap, no matter what. Of course, engine mounts and crossmember will need to be bought/made & relocated.
As far as the '94 Ranger goes, get it scanned with an OBD1 scanner on it (may have to take it to a shop) & make sure error codes are resolved somehow. Also, check for rust everywhere, it can be hidden!
If you are determined to go with the 3.8, you might investigate using something like 1998-2000 Explorer 5.0L transmission and transfer case which will mate to your engine. I think 3.8 and 5.0 shares the same rear face of block. The transfer case is one speed as opposed to 4H and 4L, but it will package under the Ranger without crashing into the fuel tank.
