I have the following: 98 Ford Ranger xlt 2.5L, manual trans, 2wd.
I have purchased a long tube header for replacement of the stock shorty one. Pace setter part # 70-1064. And looking to replace my stock cats with two Flowmaster 2000125's High-Flow cats.
Looking to pick up better sound and mileage, along with some marginal hp.
I will fab up a EGR hose/pipe connection to keep the computer from going crazy. But wondering if anyone has done this before and it worked? Or am I the first?
Also I'm using 2.5 exhaust pipe and a Cherry Bomb muffler part # 87522CB I believe. For some back pressure, I know not much, but its something.
If you want to boost milage use smaller pipe like 2.25". These aren't high rpm motors and smaller pipe will increase scavenging at lower rpms which equals more torque. Also any aftermarket cat is going to be high flow compared to stock so don't go out of your way to buy something labelled "high flow" as those may not effectively perform and could lead to failed emissions tests.
