CD-player add-on

My wife wants a CD player, and the in-dash (cassette) head looks to be a CD controller. So the question is, is there an easy way to install a 6-disk player to the existing radio? Is there a harness cord under the carpet that I can tap?

97 Expedition XLT, 4.6l.

There are some universal type cd changers out there. They work of an FM signal, just hook up the changer as per instructions and when you want to hear the CD's you just tune your radio to a specified FM channel. That would probably be the easiest way to go.
If you want to hard wire the changer there are adapterts that plug into the back of the HU and you don't have to cut any wires.

Right, I want to hardwire the changer to the existing head, let's say a pioneer 6-disc. the cord/adapter I would need, is it an aftermarket item or dealer item, etc?

Don't go to the dealer, I don't think they have the adapter, and if they do, will charge dealer price! Check into which brand of changer you want and the adapter may be included with the changer. If not, just go to Wal-Mart, they should have the most common aplications (in the automotive dept.) If you can't find it there, go to a local car audio shop and they should have it.

they always have OEM CD changes on ebay. i dont know if there is a harness that u just plug n play or what, i never had eperience with them except in my moms old car....

That is a good site, but

Ebay did the trick. 10 disk changer and harness/adapter for $219. (Ebay dealer was local, what a stroke of luck) Installed it myself in 45 minutes. Very little challenge, tore apart my whole dash before realizing the head unit pops right out with a simple tool.
