hardware size
would like to get the hardware and gaskets before I start putting a new exhaust manifold. Has anybody put in any grade 3 or 8 studs and nusts before? If so have you had any good luck with them?
thanks guy's

God, don't put grade three nuts or bolts Anywhere on your truck. Grade five should be the minimum (three dashes on the head). For something that can get as hot as exhaust, use grade 8's, you will have less problem with spalling (threads deforming and sticking). Put it together like you'll have to take it apart in the rain.

But they remove easily, do not seem to stretch or loosen, make it easy cause I can "hang" header/ manifold w/ exhaust on them while I install washers & nuts. Have been doing this on my own for 25 years or more, & customers engines if they are willing to finance it.
I started doing this to prevent RVs & E Series from cracking Cast Iron Exhaust manifolds. I also have learned reason FoMoCo used shim type exhaust manifold gaskets is to facilitate heat transfer into cylinder head & coolant therein.
Replacing shim type w/ composition & tin "Fel-Pro" style gaskets may cause cast iron manifolds to crack from over heating because they are not able to transfer heat away as designed. FBp
Great suggestion using your combination! Where do you get grade 8 studs? I just put together a 460 with headers using Mr. Gasket small hex bolts. They are a pain to get started. Hanging them on studs would be wonderful. (As soon as the bolts start falling out, I will switch to your stud combination. Any ideas how to keep the bolts or nuts from vibrating off? And what gaskets have you found work best? I am using stock FelPro now. Thanks much!
