i need some advice. The rear axle is shot on my 1971 f100 lwb. What axle assembly will work under my truck and be a simple bolt in? On a pretty tight budget due to health issues so the cheaper the better. She’s just an old daily driver.
The only axle that will bolt in is a 67-72 Ford 9"/Ford 9 3/8"/Dana 60.3 axle because Ford widened the rear frame width for 73 F-100 (2/4wd), and 73
F-250 (2wd). Your only choice is a JY, or a Craigslist axle. Or a pickup bed trailer. What is specifically wrong with yours? For a 9", parts are available anywhere for new ring and pinions, bearings, axles, housings, etc.

OP could just swap in the 3rd member (center section), doesn't need to swap the entire rear axle. OP will need to know the spline count of the axle shaft, it's probably 28, but it might be 31.
Any 28 or 31 spline center section can be used, including those from cars.

thanks for the info. I’m going to tear into it Tuesday and depending on how bad it is, I may just swap the 3rd member. Sounds like the simplest solution
