This season my plow truck wouldn’t start, first time it’s failed me sense I installed new injectors, pump, return lines, and (beru) glow plugs.
I re-read the glowplug thread above and tested my glow plugs. How ever I didn’t have a chance to run down and unplug the block heater. So the engine wasn’t ice cold. On the left bank starting from the front I had .2, 1.1, 1.0,1.1 ohms. On the right bank I couldn’t get the second and the fourth plug but #1 was 0.0 and so was #3. So if my tests are right I need at least the whole right bank and the first on the left? I’ll probably get all 8 any way. Where is the best place to get the beru plugs? It was probably 5-6 years ago when I did them before and can’t remember where I got them.
Just do an internet search for whatever you want if you want to order online. I usually call a couple local auto parts stores and see where I can get them right away. Also read "glow plugs 101" posted by chevyeater. The test light method has never failed me.
If it's not a Beru,it will not do.
It sure beats pulling the heads and you know it too.
If you use an off brand plug,it would surely be a shame.
However, you will only have yourself to blame.
If it didn't come packaged by Motorcraft, your engine will make a boat anchor for your raft.
If your wise, you'll know it's to be made in Germany and accept a socket,3/8 in size.
If it takes a 10 millimeter instead, you will wish that the previous owner of your truck was dead.
Depending on the year,install a ZD1A or a ZD9 and you'll rest easy,knowing everything will be fine.
Heed the advice by the wise,or it could lead to your engines demise.
For if it's not a Beru,it will not do.

Not naughty, but very nice advice, you will see. Thanks to Ford Forums and FORDF250HDXLT
I just replaced the right side bank on mine today, 3 were failed reading 35-85 ohms. The good one on that side and 3 on the other side are around .75 ohms. Last one (hard to access, under turbo, fuel plumbiong, and sending units) I didn't check. Maybe that one is bad too. Cold starts the past week have been really rough and smokey.
So 3, maybe 4 failed Motorcraft (Beru) ZD-1A. All were new when I installed this engine in June or July. I replaced the right side with DieselRX out of my old 6.9 that blew a head gasket, those plugs are at least 5 years old (I've had the truck that long) and never had a problem with them. To the credit of Motorcraft/Beru none were swollen, the Autolite plugs I pulled out of the 7.3 before I rebuilt it were all swollen to varying degrees, though all came out intact with a little lubricant and patience. Regardless, I'll stick with DieselRX plugs since they have worked great for me over the long term.
