Yes. Two very different purposes. Tow/Haul adjusts you upshifts and down shifts to keep your engine in a better RPM range for the torque needed for towing. The Hill Decent only works at low speeds (something like 20 and under) and keeps the truck from increasing speed on downhills.
VA13FX4, thank you...Just from reading this forum I thought tow/haul did that, I will pass on the FX4, I don’t need it and I keep my vehicles for years, I have a fear of the FX4 shields rotting as have heat shields, snd falling off.
if you have a diesel there's a speed holding feature with the engine brake that will keep you at a specific speed while going down hills. It is nice on long grades. I've had hill decent on my last 2 trucks and haven't ever really needed to use it.
I have the FX4 option on my current 2013 F-150, and I’ve used the hill descent feature going down some spooky steep rocky dirt roads while hunting. It’s kind of jerky, I really didn’t like it. I’d rather use 4-low, 1st gear going down steep rocky roads. I just ordered a F-350 6.7, and I ordered the skid plates without the FX4 package, mainly to eliminate the hill descent feature.
