I recently changed the all injectors in my 1999 7.3. (7 AD's and 1 AE) after getting everything back together she started up great. The next morning I came out and started the truck and after about a minute of idling she started missing, like 1 cylinder was completely dead, and puffing white smoke. Upon restarting she will idle fine for a minute or so then always go back to dropping a cylinder. Any idea's why?
Thank you in advance.
Edit/Note I went from 130 cc from my early model 99 to 140cc injectors
Welcome to FTE. In the future, post your questions in the 7.3L 99-03 Forum we know our trucks better than most here.
How much have have you driven it since the swap? It’ll take some time to work the air out. Did you replace the UCVH with an OEM? Where did you get the injectors from? Are you sure you have the harness’ tight?
Is the SES light on? I replaced my injectors earlier this year and I had a miss after startup and my SES light was on. Pulled the valve covers off and found that one of my injectors was unplugged. They covers are a tight fit and you can easily knock an injector plug loose/off without even knowing it.
Hello all. Thank you for responding. Turns out my new gasket cover/harness was bad, ORiely's one. Replaced it with a new OEM from Ford and she runs great. I still have a cold start problem through, 40 degrees and lower. I have new plugs. GPR seems to be working. Any ideas on why she starts hard cold?
Did you use ORielly GP’s or real Motorcraft glowplugs? If you did not use Motorcraft pull them out immediately, aftermarket glow plugs swell, then the tips break off in the cylinder. What kind of voltage drop are you seeing when the GPR activates? I see 10.9 11.3 when my GPR is active.
