Watch out for this one. If the wheels are on the ground, such as with a tow dolly, you probably need valid plates or a trip permit. Check with your DMV to be sure. It's not worth finding out the.hard way how much the ticket would be. A big truck towing another big truck on monster tires will likely catch some trooper's eye, so it's not like you'll be travelling incognito.
I was going to say the same thing.
In CT anything that is on the roadway better have legal plates or a ticket.
Now here in NC they give you leway to get from point A to B when you first buy it for fixing but after that got to have legal plates.
Don't get me started on trailers, I see a lot without plates or lights at 3am and they use them every day as they have lawn care equipment on them.

Just saying but I would use a trailer that has brakes such as the u haul car trailer. I would not use a tow dolly for a full size truck. If you do make sure you pull the driveshaft so you don't ruin the transmission when using a tow dolly.
Is there a Link/Sticky anywhere that shows the Curb weight for particular F150 models?
I'd rather use the U-Haul Trailer to tow it but I don't know my curb weight of the truck.
86' F150 302 AOD Tranny Single cab LWB.
5,290 is the MAX weight limit on the Auto Transport Rental

I don't think that is were the issue come from why Uhaul will not let you rent anything.
Uhaul has their own rules that look at before they cut you loose.
1 is what you want to tow. Others may have used a Uhaul trailer to move the same truck and not had any issues but Uhaul could tell you no. It could be the weight or the size or both? Did they even tell Uhaul what they were going to tow? Maybe they told them it was a 63 VW bug?
Then you have what you are going to pull it with. You may tell them you have a 2019 F450 with towing package and then you show up with a 1986 F250 and they can say no because their rules say it can not pull anything rent and we know that is BS.
(you did not hear / see this from me)
What I would do is measure the truck then under cover of darkness measure the trailer to see if it will fit even if they say no rent to you.
Then hope you have something large like a F250to pull said trailer.
When the time comes to rent, tell them you are towing that 63 VW bug with the F250 truck and you should be able to rent the trailer.
This is why I don't want to get rid of my open deck car trailer. I did have to rent a Uhaul truck to pull my trailer to pick up my 2 trucks as my truck I use to tow it was down.

U haul is not worth even fooling with to rent a trailer anymore and they won't rent it to you if your tow vehicle is more than 10 years old, I found that out just recently. Otherwise you should be able to rent a dolly or trailer from a local tool rental with far fewer invasive questions and as long as your supercrew has a v8 it will pull an f150 fine just understand that you won't be able to run 80mph like everyone else on the highway, keep it around 50-60 and you'll be fine. Also if your tow vehicle is an automatic I would recommend an auxiliary transmission cooler before you tow anything, your transmission will thank you.
towings not as bad as stopping. that'll be an issue of an F150 behind a supercab, stopping the weight quickly and safely enough if you aren't paying attention and get in a bind.
