Question Exhaust Question

I'm going to be putting two 40 Flowmasters on my 1990 F-150 302EFI true dual that will drop off before the rear axle will it hurt HP and MPG? I have two high flow Cat's. Also what will I gain for HP and MPG with that set up?

Thanks again everyone for the help.

Basicly, as it goes with all aftermarket exhaust work. Try not to go more then a half inch larger pipe then stock pipe. It is actually benefitial to put a little bit bigger pipe because of better flow. And the exiting before the axle, probably fine, just dont sit in one spot for a long time with it running being that exhaust will find ways into your cab. If your really lucky you will get 15 horses, and mabye 2 more miles per gallon. Hope this helps

I wouldnt expect a huge jump in mpg. Maybe a mile per gallon. What is youre setup now? Are you just changing mufflers, or the whole shebang? I could sit here and talk about pipe sizes until I get red in the face. Ive never heard this half inch theory. What is the piping size going in/there? The only place that size really matters is at the header collector. Its a trade off between exhaust flow versus velocity. Also, with duals, you need to take into account what the cross sectional area of your pipes will be. Any reason for dumping before the axle?
