It has 46,000 now. Noticed antifreeze smell and this morning, while running it was leaking pretty good. I've ordered the parts, will start breaking it down. Thanks.
unfortunately it will probably be very easy after spending five hours taking everything else off around it
The actual replacement of the water pump, tensioner, idler pulleys, and serpentine belt were cake walk. The MFn fan shroud, and fan were a complete bitch. No videos available or tip threads exist that I'm aware of. However, once you take loose anything attached to the shroud, lay them aside. Take your fan/clutch removal wrench and lock up the pulley. Take other wrench finding the right leverage, crack loose the fan nut. (mine was clean, no rust, thus easy). Then remove top shroud mount bolts, lower wire loom and two lower mounting bolts (hint, they are access between fender and bumper) slide shroud up and maneuver to spin the fan off while holding the shroud and lift the whole assembly up and out. I had no one to help so it was a bitch. Once that is out, you have access to the whole front of the motor. I would recommend changing out tensioner, and idlers while you're in there. I was into the whole mess for just under $300 with the belt. No way I'm going in again to change them later. Besides, at 46k, they wobbly, comparing with the tight new ones.
Jeez, I hope this helps someone. Shop quotes? Well, I won't berate shops, I used to be a mechanic, but I love my wallet more.
Thank you for taking the time to write this up. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. First approximately how ling did it take start to finish, does the water pump use a gasket or O-ring, and was the water pump shaft loose?

Thanks again

Hey Mark, I had about 2.5 hours into the project, mainly for being cautious and not wanting to mess anything up. Water pump uses an O-ring. Just lubed it and slipped it on the block. No, the WP shaft wasn't looks, but it was leaking like a sieve. The belt tension-er was wobbly as were both idlers so I replaced them. If you're needing to tackle this and need any help, let me know.
Take care,
Al
The belt, tension-er and idler pulleys can easily be replaced without removing the shroud and fan.
I don't envy you for having to take the fan and shroud out to replace the water pump however.
Easily, okay. It would have been easier if the ford engineers designed a two piece shroud. I agree it can they can be serviced with it in place, but I agree to disagree on the easy part.
Take care.

Reason: spell check
there is one on YouTube but it is a bit sketchy!!! waiting for my pump to come in then I will look into getting serious,,plan on replacing the tensioner and other pulley too, plus the belt with new Gates green stripe,,To whom it may concern the new water pump I got fromTasca Ford for 60 dollars plus shipping,,genuine FORD!!! LOL!
I realize the thread was started some time ago, but I replaced my fan and clutch without moving the shroud. It was a helluva squeeze - I think from top pass side - but it made it. That said, if I were doing wp I'd probably want the shroud out of the way to make life easier
Also I'd really recommend replacing the PLASTIC fan and the fan clutch while they're off. If either goes boom they trash your hood, radiator and wp.
