2019 power stroke vs duramax
ok I don’t want to be drug out and beat up here lol! Does everyone think there newer 6.7 have lots of get up and go? Now I need to be fair to my new platinum dually which is really nice,
it is brand new and no doubt still very tight. Only 120km on now, I went from a 16 Denali to this, but so far just empty and with out abuse to the new motor it doesn’t seem to have the jump the duramax did. Ok let’s be fair the GM had 3.73 gears so a bit lower than the 3:55. I haven’t towed yet and maybe the ford will haul a@@ all over the GM and I hope so that’s why I bought the ford. So I’m not trashing the power stroke I’m just curious what others have found? Truck to truck I do say the platinum is way ahead of the Denali. Thanks

My 16 duramax pulled my 5ver much better than the Ford does. It would keep up to 65 in the Rocky Mountains, the Ford can only do about 35-40 in third gear. Not sure if it’s just an axel ratio problem, or a gearing issue, but no doubt the Duramax seemed stronger. Like the Ford truck much better than the Denali trim level other than the perceived loss of power.

Loved my 16 duramax 3500 Swb. Have a 19-350 KR SWB. 3.55 gears- I feel the Ford has more power and acceleration. I think the duramax is a great engine , and love how smooth the duramax is - it’s just doesn’t accelerate like my ford- not that it’s a bad thing, just different. Also, I find myself missing the sound of the duramax - the 6.7 is almost too quite for my liking. - first world problems. I’m really liking my ford though, the seats are breaking in nicely, I love the technology , moonroof-LEDs the running boards ect. It’s a great truck

I did about the same mileage down to Phoenix and back from Denver. My 5ver wet is about 16500 with all equipment etc. does fine on flats and 3-4% grades. Anything 5%+ the truck just can’t go any faster than about 35-40 in third gear pegged to the floor. Duramax would go 65 also pegged to the floor. Just pulled better for whatever reason. Not enough of an issue to make me want to switch back.

I was debating on 4:10 but dealer talked me out of it. I think for mpg mainly, truck will be running empty a fair bit as well, he commentted on more horse power and torque I didn’t need them. I will find out soon enough how it compares. That 16 duramax on the I15 with a 43ft camper 13.7 high. I hardly new it was there most times. Had cruise on about 67 mph and when it down shifted it didn’t take long going up hill I was back at speed. I averaged about
8 mpg but it was cold out. In March on way home weather was milder and I think it was around 9. Thanks for all the input!

I have driven all three in the last couple weeks. The 6.7 is considerably more responsive than the Duramax. Has to be the design of the Powerstroke with the turbo in the valley of the V8 - Amazingly more responsive than the Duramax or the Cummins - I've had both in the last two years.

I'm not saying these guys are great and right all the time, but they at least generally test everything the same... so on TFLTruck.com you can watch them pull about 12.5K up the Ike with a F-250 6.7L and it does 55-65 (whatever the speed limit is there, they stay at the limit and don't go over) with absolutely 0 issue. Granted it's not a 5th wheel, and 12.5K isn't 16K, I think 12.5K is just their max trailer they have unless someone else has provided one.
So anyone struggling up a 5% grade not able to exceed 40mph, something seems wrong doesn't it?

I'd say towing the psd is stronger and empty, the dmax (really Allison) has it beat. The psd can make full boost at 69mph when hauling a load in 6th gear or almost anywhere low in the rpms. The reason why it tows better. I say unloaded the Allison has it beat because the torqshift takes days to lock the torque converter and then finally gives you full power in 4th. Allison locks in second and give full power in second. Also why the dmax wins most races (stock) towing or unloaded. The torque limiting feature of this transmission let's it live in longevity (as well as the driveline) but also makes it seam lazy and gives the overall ford psd a slower, lower power feel than the dmax. I knew all this coming from a lml (11-16) duramax myself and still made the switch because the luxury of this truck outweighs the laziness. Hopefully a tune and/or delete if needed, will wake this truck up in the future. But the psd does tow my 42' 14k fifth like a champ and quietly too.

I have a 40' toyhauler that weighs 16 to 17k depending on load. I have pulled it up a 6% grade easily at 60 mph with plenty of throttle left. It felt like I could go 80 if I wanted. Of course I have 4.30's in the 450, but I can't believe that a 3.55 would hurt it that much. 35 to 40 mph seems awfully slow.
