Hello, I'm new to the forum and old Ford trucks.
I Just bought a 1978 F250 2wd automatic with the 400. I'm not going to restore it (I like it rough looking) but want it mechanically sound. First thing I need to tackle is the steering. It has about a 1/4 turn of play in the steering wheel and the power steering pump is moaning and groaning. I'm looking for advice on how to diagnose the issues and where to start.
I realize there may be several threads on this issue already so if you know of one that may be of help please send me a link.
****Also looking for names of good shop manuals for this truck. ***
I had 1/2 turn of play in my 79 when I got it. The first things I would check would be the rag joint and tie rod ends. Moat of mine was the bad track bar bushings (4wd f150) and the rest was in the box and worn drag link joints
