Number Dummy or Jefffafa

Since both of you are parts gurus (retired), I am searching for a part number.

Vacuum advance (12370) for a '72 F100 360 C6. The current unit has "Autolite" in the cast snout and what appears to be "W 6" near the top of the aft section, just to the side of the orange rubber plug .
I assume (bad to do) the unit is adjustable due to the 3/4" 6 point bolt head on the front of the snout.

Any help would be appreciated.

Dan

Been a while but, unscrew that plug and I think there is a spring and washer type shims to adjust when the advance kicks in.

I'm sure there is GLR, it's basically the same as a 428 SCJ. My problem is needing the part number for the advance unit itself.

Thanks for the try!

Basically all I could find. I think this type is adjustable with a small screw driver or allen wrench.

Might give you the part number.

Does it need to be replaced, or adjusted?

Hm. Are you set on that particular design? The older style with spring, spacer, & shims (washers) are getting harder to find, a little more expensive, and normally use steel hardline and brass "ford nut" compression fittings. Is that what the distributor has? I've found them to be kind of a pain. They work good though.

In fact by the year of your truck, if not mistaken, Ford had changed to a different type that is adjustable with an allen wrench. Similar to the aftermarket vacuum cans sold today. I noticed in my shop manual they don't provide part numbers for the vacuum canisters (like they do for carburetor and distributor) only the advance in distributor degrees. This is half of the degrees at the damper, btw. Anyway if you can get a good part # that would take the guesswork out.

Tedster,
I wish I had looked up "how to post pictures". Yes the current vacuum advance has the spring spacer and shims, but it is of a later dual diaphragm design and does not utilize hard lines. It has one vacuum port on top of the spring, spacer and shims housing and a factory installed "orange" rubber plug on top of the rear diaphragm. I like the unique capability to externally adjust the advance. Just a little trick way to make adjustments with out tearing into the distributor.

There are 3 possible vacuum advances, does the dizzy have its ID tag number? Examples are: D2TF-12127-JA or MA or PA

Talking Just when I had given up!

Sometimes "FATE" plays a big part in searching. ND, thank you for the part numbers but, I searched everywhere and found nothing.

Last evening I was cruising the internet then took a moment to read the email. A local supplier (CJ Pony Parts) was advertising their final Cyber sale of the week, so I cruised the ad. According to the flier, they had distributors for 428 CJ's on sale. Hmmm, looks the same and for the price, why not! I went in this morning to pick up my order at the counter and heard that I was lucky since it was the last one, so I gave it a quick look and went out the door.

Fate.........what's in the box! A freshly remanufactured "D2TF-12127-JA"! If I had been looking for a CJ or SCJ number, I would have be upset, but a smile settled in and all is well!!!

So, a whole new brand spankin-new distributor? You'll be well pleased, guaranteed.
