Restoring a steering wheel (polish)

I actually found a decent Non-PS wheel to put on my 1974 F-100, but I needed to sand a few burrs off the thing before I install it.

I started off with 80 grit sandpaper and moved down to 320 grit, and things are nice and smooth now, but the hard plastic wheel has a scuffed finish that I want to bring back to it's original lustre.

Any suggestions on how I can get the wheel shiny again? I was thinking about getting some jewlers rouge and polishing it up like a piece of metal, but any suggestions would help.

Thanks
GS

Get some 600 and 800 grit and wet sand it...

Then shoot it with a clear finish.

Stoner,
Plastic is much too soft to "sand". It will not shine until you get into the 1500 grit range. I ,myself, would use a Mcguyers clear cut polishing compound with a buffing wheel. Don't spare the staff or you'll spoil the child. You've chosen quite a task and plenty of elbow grease will be required. A buffing wheel will save you hours of work.
You've got hours of work.
Good luck,
KingFisher

All done. Ended up polishing it out with the appropriate polishing compounds. Turned out fine if I do say so myself.
