I have noticed on my 56 F100 that there is a door lock key recepticle on the passenger side door, but none on the drivers side door. Is this really the way that Ford built these or maybe my truck has had the door replaced in the past?
Welcome to the forum! It's a very common question, and believe it or not, that's the way Ford, and most everyone else built cars and trucks back then. If you ordered the deluxe cab version, that came with the optional drivers door exterior lock.
Thanks! That helps as I learn the quirks about these old trucks. It as a "Custom Cab" emblem on the door, but that must be a lower trim level than the "Deluxe Cab".
It’s interesting because Canadian Model T’s Didn’t have an opening door on the drivers side. This is because the Canadian cars were also built for UK markets where they drive on the left side of the road.

In 55 & 56 the “Deluxe” cab logo was changed to “Custom Cab”. From 53-56 there were only two models Standard and “Deluxe/Custom Cabs”.
Yes, sorry for the confusion. The deluxe cab option had a name change to custom cab in '55. The 51-52 models, which I'm more familiar with, were called 5 star "extra cab". If you have a custom cab emblem on a drivers door with no lock, the emblem has been added. The custom cab option got you a better seat, fancier inside trim, some years even gave you a second sunvisor. I'm not sure when the passenger sunvisor became standard. Outside got extra chrome trim and the drivers door lock.
Yep it looks like previous owners added the Custom Cab emblem as I only have one sun visor, white grill rather than chrome, no arm rests, no cigarette lighter etc. Thanks for the feedback!

If you want the drivers door to be keyed you can do it yourself, I did it to mine..
