fuel tank switch
79 f150 dual tanks (obviously).......
on a side note, what should the voltage be for that ???
and the guage??? what should the voltage cycle for that???
thanks to all who care to read or reply!!!
The guage wire colors for the early eighties was darkblue/yellow for the front tank, and yellow/lightblue for the rear tank. Checking the voltage on the wires from the guages to the sending units in the tank really won't tell you anything. They send power to the guage first, and then ground the guage through the sending unit. So really the sending unit varies the ground to the guage, thus making it read more or less. The way to test the guages is take each wire going to the sending unit, and ground it(with the key on). This will make the guage swing to one direction. Then take the wire off ground, and let it hang in the air(no ground). The guage should swing the direction.
Hope the wires are the same colors as your year. Sometimes they didn't change things for a few years. If you are finding these color wires on your dash switch, I think it will be safe to assume they are the same.
