I have a later build '04 and I need to replace the Positive Battery cable. I am having a hard time verifying which cable to get. The 3C3Z-14300-CA looks to be right, but when I put in my vehicle on websites sell this cable it says that it doesn't fit. There is even one site that I input my vin and it also says that it's not the right part, but I cannot find the part number that will say yes it fits. Negative cables yes, but not positive.
My guess would be the later model motor takes the ‘05 cable.
I “rented” both the early and later cables to see the difference when I was asked about making an updated complete setup. That project is on hold but when I compared the cables for lengths, fittings, protective sleeves the only difference I found was the hanging tabs, if I remember correct, for the GP harness. Somewhere on my home computer I have pictures.
Two other sites say this part number does not fit and one of them is the one that I input my Vin#. I'm going to take the chance that it is just the little connectors that are different. I can use cable ties if I need to.
Thanks for the visual. At the end of the day, as long as the terminal connections are made, I'm good with that. Securing the cable is not rocket science.
Question: I have a 2003 Excursion with the 6.0. I bought a factory positive battery cable to replace my old one. How tough of a job is this? I mostly do my own work on my Excursion, but, feeling lazy and very busy I have farmed out some stuff to a local mechanic. I just talked to him and he said he was not going to do the positive battery cable replacement because "it goes all the way down to the starter - blah blah blah - and will have to splice it in - blah blah blah - and too difficult blah blah blah ". Obviously I tuned out a lot and will do it myself, so how difficult of a project is this? Thanks!
Mike
It’s bolt in, but it’s not a comfortable job. Absolutely nothing is spliced with the battery positive. Be careful with the nuts on the starter though, some people (Sean for one) have broken the terminal on the solenoid. There may be towards the front of the motor the attachment to the motor corrodes tight, and it’s often easier to cut the tape and pull the cable first, then remove the holder and stud. But I may be remembering that wrong. The front of the motor will have the bracket, which attaches to the same stud as the ground. You might want to get the replacement for that stud, the early pickups and Excursions had a TSB for replacement.
