I got a 1996 f150 with a 4.9 300 i6 and I've read online that upgrading your ignition system will add power. what brands of distributer, coil, wires, modules are the best. Ive looked at MSD kits they are about $600 is that worth it or is there something cheaper. Let me know
I'll answer before any of the old heads jump on board - some of the old guys can be cantankerous at times There's really no point in upgrading the ignition system on that truck. If you want to make more power, stick with other, known sources like camshaft, intake, exhaust, etc. Keep the ignition system in tip-top shape with Motorcraft parts and it will be more than adequate.

What kind of power are you looking for? What are you not getting now that you want. What transmission do you have? Many things come into play with the 4.9 as Evan mentioned. You might need to change gearing or ????. Sandy
