WRong oil filter?

I changed the oil and oil filter recently on my 2010 6.4l . I used a Shell Rotella oil filter with the dimensions H8.13"xL4.38"xW4.38". I noticed the motor-craft filter dimensions are different(smaller). I also read that with aftermarket oil filters, you are supposed to use a larger oil cap to accommodate the larger filter. well i installed the larger filter with the smaller stock cap, now it wont start. If I go out and buy the motor-craft filter, swap out the rotella for the motor-craft filter, will that solve no starting problem?

Have nothing to lose by making the correction to the filter. Even if it ends up having nothing to do with the no start issue, you don’t want an oil filter on there that is not at the right specs.

go back to the proper m/c filter and cap.

You can potentially starve the motor of oil with the after markets.

BTW the filters are made by racor, so they are very good.

Shell Rotella filters are by Purolator and are 2mm too short.
Motorcraft, Racor, and the cheap PrimeGuard are the correct length.
