Hi all, i have a 86 ford f250, 460ci, t19 4speed truck and have had a on going issues with oiling disappearing on me. I go through around a quart a week. Now here is where im at a loss, it doesnt smoke at all unless i drive it for more than an hour. Then all hell brakes loose and im clouding an intersection. It use to be when i turned so i did valve guide seals thinking that could be an issue and it has continued. The last time i had it happen i was going down hill, out of gear at idle and it was smoking a lot. And it was towards the end of my drive and had been downhill with no load also and had no issue. When i did the seals it was with the heads on and i didnt hear a difference from cylinder to cylinder. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
I have already done valve guides, and my odometer reads 74k but is a 5 number, was owned by 1 person and used lightly the last 10 years so i could see 174k being the right millage.

You said you did valve guide seals not the guides, 2 different things.
Guides the heads have to be pulled and a machine shop do the work.
No matter how good the seals are if the guides are bad they have to be done too.

Ahh sorry guess i was the one who didnt read properly lol, ok yeah that does make sense as well. Guess i get to save up for a full engine rebuild then.
I have had engines exhibit unusual oil burning at certain times, and on one of them it was caused by the oil return holes in the heads being clogged with crud. These holes are at outer corners under the valve covers.
Do you have aftermarket rocker covers? Some do not have any (or adequate) baffles at the PCV valve hole; consequently oil is sucked into the engine, via the PCV valve & intake manifold, & burnt.
I tried seals too on a S-10 I had, to no avail. Quart a week of daily driving. Couldn't see it burning either. I would have pulled the heads and had them worked but I decided I can get just as good a mileage out of a full size truck, so I bailed on it.

Been there done that. It's hard to beat the oil separators on the original valve covers.
The covers are stock, the PO had atleast pulled the heads once as i could see aftermarket valves in the heads but with stock rockers and an aftermarket cam set up. I will probably run it till i cant anymore the way it is if the drain holes are clear and look into a 12v with a nv4500 since i wanted a 5 speed anyways and doing a 12v woth a donor would run the same price as a rebuild woth upgrades.
