1967 F250. 390 4 speed. Have a pretty serious oil leak. Believe it’s the back side of the intake manifold. Have to pull it off and replace the gasket, etc. Any sense in getting a performance intake like an Elderbrock 2501 and replacing the old one? It’s a 4 speed so it’s comfortable top speed is around 54-60 mph. I also have a H650 carborator I could rebuild and throw on there too.
I'm on the lookout for an aluminum dual plane manifold for mine as well in hopes to make some gains in low end/torque and lose a little weight as a bonus. I'm also planning to fit a phenolic spacer on it under the carb.
Before I remove it I'm going to flush the cooling system since it will be coming apart anyways. Maybe replace my crapped out heater core at the same time.
The newer intake will not only weigh less, but it will flow better. The old iron intake weighs about 89 pounds, and I understand it's a real bear getting it to go back on straight. If you can do it, get the Performer model.
The Edelbrock Performer is a good intake, and rather light. Also, just for reference, I have mine installed with a 1-inch phenolic spacer with a Edelbrock carb on top. There is still plenty of hood space even with an air cleaner on.
For sealing the back of the intake, do as many suggest and ditch the front and rear seals and just use a thick bead of good quality RTV. It actually works well.

You can't go wrong losing weight up front, even if the new manifold didn't offer the performance gain. I'd love to find a carbon fiber hood too for the F-100 and move the battery behind the cab...losing that much weigh would be like gaining 30 extra HP and make the truck more balanced. I wonder how much more weight savings a set of aluminum heads might be???
