1988 e250 ps pump bracket

Hi all,
On my way home today the bracket that hold the power steering pump on my ‘88 e250 broke. The metal actually tore. I am looking for a replacement, but am having an issue finding one. The van is a 7.3 IDI diesel. I checked on the truck bracket, but it appears to be different. The van one looks like a horseshoe that bolts to to the pump behind the pulley, while the truck one with the same engine looks like a full circle that bolts behind the pulley.

If anyone has a bracket they are willing to part with or if anybody would have a part number it would be a great help.

thanks

You might want to consider welding the existing bracket. For some reason, I thought I read something about these brackets routinely breaking out of metal fatigue. Maybe you can beef it up a little bit too, to prevent any further damage.

I think this is the ultimate solution, I have the van bracket and pump on my truck and it is a bit wobbly and doesn't seem as sturdy as what was originally on my truck, but it's a better pump with the van setup.

Do you recall what power steering high pressure line you used to swap teh van pump and brackets onto your truck?

Also, where do these brackets break? Picture? If there is a weak spot I'd like to weld mine up before swapping it on. Thanks!

I'd like to see a picture as well. my PS unit has been squeaking and maybe mine needs some beefing up as well.

jayro88,
I replaced the one on my truck because the adjustment ear was broken off when I bought the truck.
I was somewhat surprised to find that a lot of the gas engine trucks in the wrecking yard had exactly the same power steering pump mounting bracket. Some didn't. I think they were on at least 2 different sized gas engines and I believe both were small blocks.

I strongly suspect that the same is true for the E series vans because the gas engine mounting bolt locations will be the same whether the engine is in a truck or a van, if you get what I mean. They would have no reason to make a different pump bracket in the GAS vans for the same mounting holes and location as on the 7.3L diesel vans. In other words the pump location and bracket mounting holes in some gas engine vans are going to be the same as for the IDI diesel vans and they'll use the same mounting brackets. I don't have a way to confirm that but I'm pretty sure that will be the case.
If I knew what yours looks like I could probably find a picture or video of one like it in a gas van.

If you can find a wrecking yard with a few vans of that general vintage, like maybe backwards 8 years and forward 4 or 5 years you can probably find one. I don't know what year(s) the gas engines switched to serpentine belts. That's where I would go to look for one.

I see now from your first post that you have one of those stamped metal ones. All that I have ever seen in the trucks are thick cast aluminum ones that I've never heard of breaking except at the corner where the square hole is for a half inch drive breaker bar or ratchet to fit in to apply tension during adjustment. The brackets still work but not as convenient to apply tension to.
Someone on ebay is selling stamped metal ones (way too expensive in my opinion) for all of the F250/F350 series IDI trucks, 83-94 claiming that they are OEM and I have never seen a stamped steel one like that on an IDI truck!

Now, THIS ONE is from a 1991 E350 IDI VAN same generation as your 88, it's supposed to fit 83-91 and it is a thick casting, not stamped steel. also too expensive in my opinion but is THIS what you have or do you have a stamped steel one?

I had to put a few spaces in the URL because a couple of emoticons were showing up in it and it didn't go to the right listing. So just copy the URL and remove the spaces and then past it into the address bar of your browser. I'll now see if this works.

NO IT DIDN'T WORK. I'll have to figure this out.
THAT was crazy! Now I can't find that listing! SO HOW ABOUT THIS ONE? It has the Horse Shoe shape you described. It's from a 302 gasser and it has pictures of it out of the truck and in the truck mounted I am going to upload a copy of one of the photos from the listing just below it so it will be here long after the listing has ended. WHICH MIGHT BE A LONG TIME AT THAT PRICE!
