I do a lot of highway driving. What is the best headlight available for our older trucks? There are so many new types of lights nowadays, will they fit my truck and are they that much better than a pair of halogens?
I use Hella 80/100 watt lights. I've used them for years. Not really legal for street use, but I have them aimed lower. If you plan on using higher wattage lights, you'll need to inatall a realy.
Dunno...I do know you have to be careful on the current draw of any new bulbs you use. The wiring to the lights is not the thickest stuff, and there is a breaker in the light switch. If you draw too much current, you will get the off-on light syndrome as it flips the breaker and then resets as it cools. We had this problem on a 74, with just plain halogen lights, if you had the brights on. A new light switch with a fresh breaker might help a bit as it's less resistive. Either that, or you can rewire with headlight relays.
Just thought I'd pass this along, in case you get new lights, and they start to cycle on you. MK
I use the same lights as Faithful Old Road Dog except I use the clear blue bulds. The only difference is my light beam is clear and his has the stock yellow light beam. They are great, I can see for a long ways.
