is this a hard thing to do, changeing the rears ? i was thinking about that myself, i would like a little less rpm at highway speeds. i tach about 2800 at 70 mph. I can build a engine and switch out any parts i need to. but never played with the rear end. and i am talking about the truck in my sig and gallery. And any idea of the cost of this. And what would you suggest for gears ?
What gears and tires do you have now? What tranmission (od?)? It's a difficult job and is one that is best left to the mechanics if you havn't done it before. I just did it on my truck, it was difficult but I spent 8-9 months slowly gathering information and techniques to learn how.
this is what i am running
as for actual speed i dont know
speedo is broke.
but i know for sure that i am going 60 at 2500 or at least pretty close too it.
If you do infact have 3.73s (maybe someone changed it?) you'll be running 2569 RPM at 65 mph. You're going to lose a fairly significant amount of power if you drop ratios. It'll cost you approx. $300 just for parts, and it is a very precise setup so I don't suggest doing it yourself if you've never done it before. Unless you spend a lot of time on the highway, I don't think it's worth it.
i take my truck once in a while on a road trip but usually it is 13 miles to work and 13 miles back and just around town. 300 bucks sounds like alot to just get a little less rpm at highway speeds i was hoping it be a quick thing, i guess it is not, bummer
I have an 86 with a 6.9 , 4 spd, 3;55 and it seems to be taking pretty high at 70 mph, I don't know what it is taching, tach is broke, anyways how much difference would 4;11s make
