07 ford ranger 4x4 high bang!

I'll try to describe as well as I can. I have a 07 ranger 4.0 4wheel drive. When in two wheel drive there are no issue a slight plunk sound in front which I assume is either cv joint or a joint of sorts. The major issue happens in four wheel drive. When I switch to 4 wheel high is goes in very smooth I take off whether it's on dry pave, gravel, ice no matter problem is same exact all the time.

after about 30 second in motion or Ish 300 feet I start getting a banging sound that I feel in the floor of the truck. I took note that with these banging sounds the front end of truck seems to bounce lightly as well. This banging I thought was speed related but seems more revolution related as the bang happened as I was stopping at a light and almost at 1 km per hour. All in all its more agressive at 50km and higher.

when I disengage at a stop there is no noise no issues if I give it 20 second or such.

when I disengage on the move at low speed or not, one more bang happens and the 4 wheel drive disengage.

I've had t case checked up and tranny was just rebuilt.

my own thought is it sounds like it's either disengaging or the vacuum seals could be bad but I'm not familiar with the setup on these

help please

This is a weird one! I'm assuming that your '07 is the same as the '04 that I have, and that means that you have no hub locks. No hub locks means that the front diff & driveshaft are rotating all the time when the truck is in motion, whether or not you're in 4WD. What this means to me is that the transfer case is the main suspect, since it's the only part that is "off" or 'on". I looked in my shop manual, but it had no troubleshooting for mechanical problems, only a long list of electrical problems.

You describe a long time for the 4WD engagement or disengagement to happen, which sounds abnormal. Perhaps the engagement is not being completed fully.

I don't think I can help you other than the above information, but if the bang is violent enough to feel in the floorboard, then that is obviously very concerning. It brings to mind visions of something breaking while you're underway and locking the whole drivetrain...

im questioning a little bit as well because i spoke again to the transmission specialist a long time buddy of mine here is what he did to reach some idea . he ran the truck 4 wheel drive high on a hoist it was doing the banging but never consistent so would have little to no resistance in the tires. said when it bangs everything under the truck moves. unplugged front drive shaft problem stopped. plug back in while in 4 wheel high boom there it is again. stop truck engage or disengage no sound very smooth. this is why it is so confusing. so i took the truck for another spin on ice earlier today. i drove 2 km at 20 never had a single bang sped up to 50 had a few bangs different volume all the time. slowed right down to 5 km had another bang. He checked T case said was all good there checked drive shaft now he's questioning the front end parts CV joints, axles, and differential whether the diff when under pressure or under pull weight is binding since in 2 wheel drive it would be push weight

Welcome to FTE.

I'm not a 4X4 guru, but after reading your post & noting the mods you've made, have some general questions that might help some in getting your trouble shoot focused.

Did the problem come about slowly over time, or suddenly after some event, like the tranny repair, or the 4" lift mod, or an off road, or other drive cycle, or weather event, etc ?

Have you scanned for trouble code clues with a high end scan tool like the ELM/FORScan, or the like combo, that can access & query all of the vehicle computer controllers for trouble code clues? If so, post All code Numbers, as they can often focus a trouble shoot.
