Well it might be time for me to upgrade up from my 2000 F250 SC LB to a newer model, so I'm trying to plan ahead. I've been looking around and have questions regarding Crew Cab Long boxes. For those of you that have them, can you tell me the pros and cons? My biggest thing is turning radius. Is it decent better than older SD's. The early SD's did not have the greatest of turning radius. Thanks
The turning radius on the newer Fords is better than what you have on the 2000 F250 you have. I am not going to say that it is significantly better, but it is definitely better.
My 18 CCLB doesn’t have as tight a circle as my 04 CCSB did but it didn’t take long to get used to it. The 48 gallon tank and the extra bed space are great. I wouldn’t go back!
I had a 2000 year Scab short and it didn’t turn sharp, front leaf springs, than crew short in 2005, much better it’s the coil front end. My 2017 Crew Long is a beast but it does really good. And you get a real 8 foot box, 48 gallon fuel tank. If you really want it, I advise the 360 cameras, I wish I had them, but I make out ok anyway.
I would never give up the 8 foot box. My last upgrade was 2005 8 foot box to 2017 DRW 8 foot box. Would never go smaller box. Yes the crew cab is a tuna boat but not willing to give it up. Go for it!
I went from 2012 CC SB to the 2017 CC LB DRW. The turning radius was definitely tighter on the short bed, but not enough of a factor to make me give up the long bed.
My 2019 CC LB DRW does definitely turn tighter than my 1999 SC LB. However, I do notice the difference in length when executing a 3-point turn in my driveway. It does not limit me because of the improved turning radius, but the 18 or so extra inches in rear seat is noticeable in such a situation. And the extra benefit of having the rear seats fold up versus folding down in my 1999 makes it a heck of a lot easier getting my 13 year old dog in and out of the back row.
If the turning radius is what you want, check out the F450 with a 45* turn. (36* on non wide front end Super Duty) Depending on what state you register in, the F450 is a great choice. DRW only though.
I have a '17 CCSB FX4 that replaced my '07 F350 CCLB 2wd. The '07 Long Bed was a PITA to park or maneuver in tight spaces. The '17 CCSB is no city car but it is noticeably easier to maneuver and park.
I’ll never give up my 8’ box.
My 18 does not turn as tight as my 06 did.
Tight drive throughs are 3 or 4 point turns and you’ll learn that backing into parking spaces is much easier than driving in.
Parallel parking is usually not an option..
I went from a '96 SC LB to my '17 CC LB. The '17 turns tighter. Good enough for me. And as others have mentioned, CC LB is the only configuration that gets you the 48 gallon fuel tank.
Funny I thought my 2005 turned tighter than my current 2017, But my 05 was a extended Cab not a Crew Cab LOL. Took me 1 day to get used to it. Would not go back!! Love it!!!
