Hi Folks,
A couple questions.
I'm going to be buying a 4WD Diesel for towing soon.
Would a dually be a little better for towing, or does it matter?
I've never owned a dually, but they look really strong!
Also in regards to the 2006 or 2007 6.0, as long as they've had the proper mods done (bullet proofed) they should be pretty much the same, yes?
Really psyched about this!
Doing lotsa research, and hetting input from you Pros!
-Bob
Towing with a dually is much more stable than srw.
Thanks. I sorta figured that. Maybe the suspension may be beefier, as well.
I'm currently looking at a couple different Trucks - One is a dually that I really like.
I recently purchased my first ever dually I have owned several 3/4 and one ton ford diesel. And 1 f150 (nice grocery getter but other than that I like the bigger trucks) it helps with swaying so much handles the payload tongue weights Waayyyy better I prefer the crew cab LB so parking is a joke even without the dually so that dosent bother me none gas mileage isn’t much different and they have steeper gearing to which helps if you haul up hills
A dually is almost always a more stable towing platform. However, if you are towing a popup camper or a 14' canoe its kinda overkill. So it really depends on what you are towing. General rule of thumb is anything under 12K a dually is overkill. I have towed a friend's toy hauler that was about 15K lbs with my '17 F250 6.7. That's right at the upper limit of my tow rating and the truck did it just fine. He tows that trailer with a dually and its very comfortable. So what are you towing?
The 6.0 is a great engine once its been bulletproofed. I had an '07 (6s and 7s had the revised head studs) and loved it. The 6.0, once bullet proofed, is one of the best diesels out there. It makes good power without the need for upgrades and still gets good mileage. It also comes with the 5 speed TorqShift automatic which is an excellent transmission.
I put 200K miles on my 6.0. No real problems. Be sure to change the oil every 5K, use quality Synthetic and Motorcraft filters. Also, keep an eye on the oil temps. When the oil temps start to run much hotter than the coolant temps, replace the oil cooler. And absolutely do the EGR delete.
This is my truck the day I picked up my new trailer (August of 2017) and a month before I traded it on my new truck. Its an '07 F350 6.0, 2WD, Long Bed.

Great inf0rmati0n, and beautiful truck! Because 0f the $ I plan t0 spend 0n this truck, and what I've learned, I have f0cused in 0n the '06 and '07 F350's w/6.0. I've f0und s0me really nice, well maintained, l0w mileage 0nes. I will be t0wing a 25' t0 30' G00seneck Deck0ver Trailer. I'll be hauling big r0und bales 0f hay, but want the p0tential t0 be able t0 safely t0w a tract0r, skidsteer, 0r car as well. I'm really psyched, and this f0rum has been a terrific res0urce. Thanks, every0ne!
