I swapped out my valance for the 2WD shorter version. Really like the look but I have these 2 brackets that are now visible. What are they for? They look fairly easy to remove
I'd leave them on there. Not hurting anything, and will possibly help in an accident.
It's not like anyone really sees them; unless they're down at ground level ...
I've wanted to order this online but shipping is outrageous. Need to get a dealer to order me one.
You could also cut your 4x4 valance down to whatever size you want. It's really easy. I used masking tape to draw my line and an angle grinder to cut with.
Any downside to the modification? Are the 'protective protrusions' the reason for that-sized shroud on 4WD models ?
It's purpose is airflow, and it squeezes out a little MPG. Everyone obviously prioritizes that for themselves. I haven't messed with mine (yet) to see how much we're talking, but I imagine it's slight especially for non-highway speeds.

The issue is better aerodynamics and drag reduction beneath the truck. 4x4 Super Duty’s are taller trucks, and have more stuff hanging below the bottom of the frame. Some say there is a small drop in fuel mileage when switching a 4x4 Super Duty to a 2x4 valence. And yes, most remove the Anti Dive brackets when they make the switch, which you have to do when installing a snow plow mount, winch bumper, front hitch, or grill guard.
Thanks, guys, I will probably learn to ignore its presence, I thought that maybe it directed airflow for cooling or maybe served to prevent precipitation (road splash) from funneling into the engine bay...
Remove the valance altogether, along with the brackets, then prime and paint the "lip" on the bumper flat black and it all but disappears. I have searched and searched and the only MPG claims I have seen in regards to valance removal was a 1/4-1/3 MPG improvement.
Heard claims that it is more for creating a vacuum underneath to assist with airflow through the radiator.
For cosmetics or did you notice any MPG gain? I had intended to mention chopping down the original vs. paying for new, but forgot to. Pretty easy to measure, mark, and tape at best, then cut by hand or rotary tool. Done lots of Harley parts like this.

Just to make clear: going from a 4WD (deep) valance to the 2WD (shallow) valance MAY result in a slight DECREASE in MPG. The thought is that the deeper 4WD valance may help airflow under the truck.
