If there is any negative impact from cutting down or removing the valance I sure haven't noticed it. If you like the look go for it! I actually experimented with the mpg loss. After having mine removed for over a year, I reinstalled the factory 4x4 valance and kept it on for over 3000 miles. There was absolutely no increase in mpg's so I decided to cut it down. Zero regrets!
Just to make clear: going from a 4WD (deep) valance to the 2WD (shallow) valance MAY result in a slight DECREASE in MPG. The thought is that the deeper 4WD valance may help airflow under the truck.
This makes sense to me....I know when I pulled one off my jeep wrangler back in the day the MPG drops 1-3 MPG.....they design these things this way for reason!

While I agree with your argument about design, how does a Wrangler compare to a Super Duty? A Prius gets great mileage, but how does it do towing a trailer?

it doesnt compare at all vehicle wise.....well other than terrible gas mileage!! I was just saying those types of items are designed that way for a reason.

I promise you won't see a 1-3 mpg loss by removing it from a gas f250.
a lost is a loss. No different than adding bigger tires though..... If you like the look then rock it!
I do prefer the look, but it wouldn't have been worth it if I had experienced any mpg loss. So far the only mod I've done that resulted in a noticable mpg loss was the 35x12.50 tires.
I swapped out my valance for the 2WD shorter version. Really like the look but I have these 2 brackets that are now visible. What are they for? They look fairly easy to remove
Soooooo, did we ever figure out what those brackets are for?
